01: REQUIEM

My debut sophomore collection focuses on the beauty of gothic architecture, serving as a memorial for the beauty within the intricate details of gothic cathedrals.

IDEATION

The ideation process for this collection started with highlighting the structure and common details within gothic architecture. I found myself drawn to to the arch windows and the intricate sculpting, and I knew that I wanted to incorporate both of those details within each of my looks. I incorporated wood, faux leather, and silk organza that I hand watercolored to match my color scheme. The two pairs of pants are made of polyester silk and chiffon, with two layers of laser cut, hand designed panels for each pant leg that reflect the designs of these gothic arches and windows.

INSPIRATION

The black and blue color scheme came from a few different aspects of my inspiration. I chose black to allow for the details of the looks to be seamless, and blend together as how these gothic cathedrals display in real life. The watercolor blue came from both the inspiration of blue stained glass, as well as the look of the sky through open arches. I stuck with the small color scheme to allow for my detailed structure to be the main focus, which is reflective of these real life cathedrals.

FINE DETAIL

This collection consists of four looks, two menswear and two womenswear. I experimented with techniques such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and hand painting watercolor. My main focus was to highlight the beauty of the pointed arches and windows, and translate them into wearable pieces of art. Throughout this collection I had the opportunity to refine my pattern making skills, as well as my technical construction skills.

3D Printed arches, individually covered in the same faux leather as the dress. Attached to resemble the look of windows on gothic cathedrals.

Laser cut design on the menswear pants. Designs differ within both pants, but both resemble the framework of stained glass windows.

Laser cut acrylic chest plate, with hand painted silk organza between the two layers of acrylic. Design mirrors the design shown within the wooden dress, tying the collection.

Hand painted, laser cut wood. Painted to resemble the look of rod iron, but cut to resemble the design of cathedral windows and interiors. Hand painted silk organza. Hinged panel on the back to allow for the dress to be worn.
