EISENHOWER DANCE DETROIT: COSTUME INTERNSHIP

During the first semester of my junior year, I had the opportunity to work with a local dance academy, the school of Eisenhower Dance Detroit, to assist in their costume department for their production of The Nutcracker Ballet. The costumes shown above are some of the costumes that I had the opportunity to work on, along with costumes ranging from the youngest classes in the production to the oldest dancers.

SNOW QUEEN: PANCAKE TUTU CREATION

During this internship, I had the opportunity to re-do a costume that had been damaged, and needed altered to fit the current dancer who was performing the role. I was taught the process of creating a pancake tutu from start to finish, with the opportunity to alter, fit, and sew this costume perfectly. I gained further insight into the world of altering costumes, specifically tutus, as well as experience working with embellishment.

INSPIRATION AND DESIGNS

Although this internship was primarily focused on alterations, and gaining experience working in a costume environment, I took the opportunity to create some of my own designs for roles in The Nutcracker. While these costumes were never created, I gained insight into what it is like to create a costume design from scratch, and then modify the design to be able to be altered and tailored for rewear throughout many productions.
